Privacy Policy for New Upload Alerts
Last Updated: September 21, 2025
Ben Paton ("us", "we", or "our") operates the New Upload Alerts mobile application (the "Service"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data.
Information Collection and Use
We collect and use information for various purposes to provide and improve our Service to you.
Types of Data Collected
Data Stored Locally on Your Device:
Channel URLs/Identifiers: If you manually enter YouTube channel URLs or select channels to monitor (including those from your YouTube subscriptions after Google Sign-In), these identifiers are stored locally on your device. This allows the app to check for new videos from your chosen channels.
App Preferences: Settings related to the app's functionality, such as sort order for videos or notification preferences (if applicable), are stored locally on your device.
Video Timestamps for Notifications: To avoid duplicate notifications, the app stores timestamps of the latest videos for which notifications have been sent. This data is stored locally.
Bookmarked Videos: If you bookmark a video, a flag indicating your choice is stored locally on your device to highlight the video and allow for filtering. This information is not transmitted to us.
Data Accessed via Google Sign-In (Optional Feature):
If you choose to use the optional Google Sign-In feature to connect your YouTube account, we may access the following information with your explicit consent:
YouTube Channel Subscriptions List: We access your list of YouTube subscriptions solely to allow you to easily select which of your subscribed channels you wish to monitor for new videos within our app. This list is fetched when you access the relevant section in the app settings and is not stored persistently by our Service after you have made your selections.
Basic Google Profile Information: We may access basic profile information associated with your Google account, such as your display name and email address. This is used to personalise your experience within the app (e.g., showing who is signed in).
Important: We do not access or store your Google account password. The authentication process is handled securely by Google.
Usage Data (Analytics)
We currently do not collect anonymous Usage Data (e.g., information about how the Service is accessed and used, including your device's Internet Protocol address (IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers and other diagnostic data) for analytics purposes. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated accordingly.
Use of Data
New Upload Alerts uses the collected and accessed data for the following purposes:
To provide and maintain the core functionality of our Service (i.e., fetching and displaying latest videos from user-specified channels).
To allow you to customise your experience with the Service (e.g., by selecting channels and setting preferences).
To enable you to select channels from your YouTube subscriptions for monitoring if you use the Google Sign-In feature.
To display your Google account name within the app if you are signed in.
To manage and send notifications for new videos from your monitored channels (if enabled).
To improve our Service.
Storage and Processing of Data
Data such as your list of manually added or selected (from subscriptions) YouTube channels to monitor, your app preferences, and notification-related timestamps are stored locally on your device using Android's DataStore. This data is not transmitted to us or any third-party servers.
If you use the Google Sign-In feature, your YouTube subscription list is accessed temporarily to allow you to make selections and is not stored by our app. Only the identifiers of the channels you actively choose to monitor are stored locally, as described above.
Processing of YouTube video data (like fetching titles, thumbnails, and publication dates) occurs on your device by interacting with publicly available YouTube RSS feeds or, in the case of accessing your subscriptions, via the YouTube Data API services (see "Third-Party Services").
Data Retention and Deletion of Google User Data
This section outlines our policies regarding the retention and deletion of Google user data accessed through Google Sign-In when you use our Service.
Google User Data We Access and How Long We Keep It:
Basic Google Profile Information (e.g., Display Name, Email Address): This information is accessed when you sign in with Google and is used to display your account status within the app. It is primarily used for the duration of your active signed-in session for display purposes and is not otherwise persistently stored on our servers. Any display of this information is handled locally on your device.
YouTube Subscription List: When you use the Google Sign-In feature to select channels for monitoring, we temporarily access your list of YouTube subscriptions. This list is used solely to allow you to choose which of your subscribed channels you wish to monitor within our app. The full subscription list itself is not stored by our Service after you have made your selections.
Monitored Channel URLs (Derived from Your Google Account): If you choose to monitor channels selected from your YouTube subscriptions, the URLs or identifiers for these specific channels are stored locally on your device within the app's private storage (using Android's DataStore). We retain this information for as long as you choose to keep these channels in your monitored list within the app.
OAuth Access Tokens: To access your YouTube subscriptions (with your permission), our app uses OAuth Access Tokens provided by Google. These tokens are managed by the Google Sign-In library, are typically short-lived, and are used to authorise requests to Google's YouTube Data API on your behalf. Our Service does not store these access tokens persistently.
Your Control Over and Deletion of Google User Data:
You have control over the Google user data that is associated with our Service. Here's how you can manage or delete your data:
Managing Monitored Channels: You can review, add, or delete individual YouTube channel URLs from your monitored list at any time through the app's settings screen. If you remove a channel that was added via your Google Account, its URL will be removed from the app's local storage. You can also use the "Delete All" or "Clear All Channels" feature in the app's settings to remove all monitored channel URLs from local storage.
Effect of Signing Out: If you sign out of your Google Account within the New Upload Alerts app, the app will no longer have active access to your Google Account data. Channels previously selected from Google subscriptions will be removed from the app's local storage once changes are saved.
Uninstalling the Application: Uninstalling the app will delete all locally stored data, including any settings and any monitored channel URLs derived from your Google Account.
Revoking App Access via Google: You can revoke New Upload Alerts' access to your Google Account at any time by visiting your Google Account permissions page: https://myaccount.google.com/permissions. Revoking access prevents future access but does not automatically delete data already stored locally on your device. You can delete this local data via the app's settings or by uninstalling the app.
General Retention and Deletion Policy
We retain Google user data only for as long as is necessary to provide the features of the Service described in this policy. Once the data is no longer needed, it is deleted automatically or remains under your control for deletion through the app. You may request deletion of all data associated with your use of the Service at any time by using the in-app “Clear All Channels” feature, signing out of your Google account, or uninstalling the app from your device. If required by law, we may retain certain data for longer periods, after which it will be permanently deleted.
We do not store your Google user data on any external servers. All Google user data is either handled ephemerally for a specific action, stored locally on your device, and is under your control for deletion.
Third-Party Services
We use third-party services to provide certain features within our Service. These service providers have their own privacy policies addressing how they use such information.
Google Sign-In and YouTube Data API Services: We use Google Sign-In to allow you to authenticate with your Google account. If you sign in, we use the YouTube Data API Services to access your YouTube subscriptions and to retrieve information about YouTube channels. Your use of these features is subject to the Google Privacy Policy (https://www.google.com/policies/privacy) and the YouTube Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms). You can manage and revoke access for our app via Google's security settings page (https://myaccount.google.com/permissions).
Disclosure of Data
We do not share your Personal Data with third parties, except in the following circumstances:
Legal Requirements: We may disclose your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
Security of Data
The security of your data is important to us. Data stored locally on your device is protected by the security mechanisms of the Android operating system. When you use Google Sign-In, the security of your Google account is handled by Google's authentication systems.
However, remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Links to Other Sites
Our Service provides access to content on YouTube. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services, including YouTube itself beyond the interactions described under "Third-Party Services".
Children's Privacy
Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13 ("Children") or the applicable age of consent in your region. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under this age. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your Child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from children without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to remove that information.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page within the app and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top.
You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes are effective when they are posted on this page.
